Sound check with Enrique Iglesias, in Abu Dhabi 2015

December 5, 2015

[youtube id=”YS2zajhxNH8″ width=”624″ height=”360″]

What’s up everyone 🙂
We recently performed with Enrique Iglesias in Abu Dhabi for the F1 Racing Concert Series.
It was an incredible experience (30K+ People) made even more so when I saw pics of my favorite band
from childhood, Bon Jovi, who had played there a few weeks before us, on the same stage.
Amazing experience!
As usual, I always try to give you guys a cool view of my life on the road, so, here is a clip I recorded of the song
“Takin’ Back My Love” from our sound check.
What you will hear is MAINLY Drums (Van Romaine) and Percussion (Gilmar Gomes).
The bigger BAND sound you are hearing, and any guitars, vocals, keys are all coming from the PA…far away from where I am 😛
Anyway, I think it’s a cool vibe of us on stage.
I hope you enjoy , make sure to turn on the HD 😉
Feel free to reach out as usual and let me know what YOU would like to see (Don’t ask me for Enrique footage, I can’t do that).
You know how to reach me, and in case you don’t…..

FYI, in this video I’m using a Gibson J200, DR Strings &  Ultimate Ears Pro

Playing with Mr. Enrique Iglesias

October 28, 2015

ei 940x380 for website

Wow! It has DEFINITELY been a while since my last blog, so let me get you up to date 🙂

For the past few months I’ve had the pleasure of playing with the awesome “Enrique Iglesias”!
It came right on time, after a great summer tour with “Smash Mouth”.

I’ve also gotten married to my wonderful Fiancée. We had a nice ceremony in Vegas with a bunch of our friends
BETWEEN a few legs of the Enrique tour. It was great to see a lot of people and catch up..and also, get married 😉

In case you’re wondering, no, I haven’t LEFT “Smash Mouth”…that being said, they may move on since I can’t do some of the gigs
as some of you have noticed when you came to see me and I wasn’t there 😛
So…whoever takes over…I’ll make sure and come watch you play when I can haha.
I miss the guys a lot…and you guys (the fans) as well.

Anyway…I gotta hop on a plane to Ecuador right now.
Hit me up any time, you know how to reach me 🙂

Time lapse video – Smash Mouth Stage

July 11, 2015

[youtube id=”kvdTDKU3XLY” width=”624″ height=”360″]

What’s up everyone!
So, I got this video for you fans and gear heads, and just people in general 🙂
It’s a time lapse FROM load in right up to our show intro and first song.
The video was shot in at Waterfest, Leach Ampitheater, Oshkosh, WI on 7.9.15
Do yourself a favor and hit the HD button 😉
Let me give you the scoop on what’s going on in this video 🙂
Song: “Had Enough” – Written by Daniel Brecher, Gregg Cash, Devin Lebsack & Myself
* Main dude setting up keys and drums, the star of the vid – Robbie Cope
* Around 40 seconds in, you see Mike get very involved in his new rig, still working out some of the cool details that it can do!
* 1:05 – Jason comes out to help Robbie with tuning the new heads etc.
* 1:18 – Notice the guy (rigger I believe) climbing up the rope ladder onto the truss (on the left) to aim lighting at us 😛
(Couldn’t pay me enough to ever do that!)
* 1:28 – As they continue to set the lighting for the show we start first song for sound check.
* 1:36 – Second song for sound check!
* 1:42 – Third song for sound check 🙂
* 1:50 – Fade into DOORS JUST OPENED Cam! So, what you’re seeing is our drums on the right, covered. Randy’s drums
(Drummer for “Toad The Wet Sprocket“) on the left riser, where the keys were before (they are now on the floor in back
of the riser).
As people start to poor in, the local band “Sushi Roll” takes the stage with all the hits and nothing BUT the hits!
* 2:03 – “Tonic” takes the stage as people keep rolling in.
* 2:10 – Fade to stage change over between “Toad The Wet Sprocket” and the “Smash Mouth” stage. The crowd is READY to rock!
*  2:37 – Robbie starts the show after getting his cue from Blake Williams (Monitor Engineer) and Patrick Bojanic (FOH Engineer/TM etc.).
And, back to real time speed. If you’ve seen any of our shows in the last year and a half, you know this intro (created By Patrick Bojanic)
These mice aren’t doing it justice, this intro is BANGIN’!!!!
Only to be experienced correctly live and in person!
Then – 4:05 – “Can’t Get Enough Of You Baby”
Thanks to: Patrick Bojanic, Robbie Cope, Tyler Dragness, Blake Williams and everyone else who helped with this vid.
Also thanks to: Shabat Guitars,  Digitech,  LSL Instruments, Mesa Boogie, Bogner,  Eastman Acoustics, David Allen Pickups,  Reunion Blues, Ultimate Ears  & DR Strings

Well, that’s it for this one.

Heritage and Freedom Fest in O'Fallon, MO

July 5, 2015

[youtube id=”_iC40kORZCY” width=”624″ height=”360″]

What a GREAT show last night in O’Fallon, MO. By far the BEST crowd in the whole tour…so far 🙂
It was the 4th of July and they were there to celebrate Independence Day in all it’s glory.
I got this great footage from my #GoPro on my Bogner Shiva Amp last night and had to share it!
Little insider fun facts:
At about 2:15 I disappear…I actually got up on the drum and keyboard riser to hang with Jason and Michael.
Then, at 3:08, I got off our stage and went to hang with the Sign Language Interpreter in her area…she was
more than a little surprised 😛
At 4:18…I look at my tech Tyler and let him know I need guitar picks for the fans, to which he responds by giving me
a bag of them at 5:18 while taking my guitar from me.
There ya have it!
I encourage you to watch it in Hi res and listen with headphones to Patrick Bojanic’s great sound engineering!
Gear used:
Shabat Guitars,  Digitech,  LSL Instruments,  Eastman Acoustics, David Allen Pickups, JColoccia Horus , Reunion Blues, Ultimate Ears  & DR Strings

All Day And All Of The Night – Guitar perspective

July 2, 2015

[youtube id=”PZSEBEG3yqM” width=”624″ height=”360″]

Sup everyone 🙂

So, last night we had a show in Pueblo, CO. Small town with a lot of hungry fans for good music.
It was a nice evening and I was trying to decide where to put the GoPro for the night…as you can see,
it ended up by bridge of my Swamp Ash Les Paul.
I also put a cam/mic up by the FOH sound booth in order to capture the great sounds Patrick Bojanic
was mixing for us.

At about 15 seconds in, I tried to pose for a little photo bombing…not sure if I made it into the picture
because I had to start playing 😛
Would love to see the pic if it’s out there!
Solo is at 1:37.

OK…enjoy….I gotta go get to sound check in Arvada, CO.
Have a great day.

Don’t forget to hit the 1080HD haha.
Hope you enjoy.

Smash Mouth – fun facts about sound check vid :-)

June 30, 2015

[youtube id=”0pRBZ5iYvVA” width=”624″ height=”360″]

First off, make sure you watch this in hi res for full effect and keep the volume a bit lower since
you’re listening to STAGE volume…pretty loud 🙂

So here are a few funny things about this video –

You’ll see about 30 seconds in that I’m looking back at my rig. What I’m looking at is my RJM Effects Gizmo unit
to see if it’s getting MIDI and changing my sounds.
I see the unit isn’t getting my MIDI Program change commands so I call my awesome guitar tech Tyler Dragness
to come over. As he comes over, you can hear him sing “More baby” with me and crackin’ me up!
I tell him what’s going on and he goes to check it about a minute into the vid.

At about 1:22 I’m cheering up our Sound Engineer and Tour Manager Patrick Bojanic by chanting “Go Paddie, Go Paddie” into
my mic (you can’t really hear it, but HE can) 🙂

Around 1:35, I  check that what Tyler did worked, and it did…apparently he had just put the MIDI cable into the output rather
than the input, causing a little mixup (as he tells me at 2:30).

At 1:59 I royally screw up and make a stupid face 😛

And that’s about it folks 🙂
Hope you enjoyed the insight into the sound check and hearing “Can’t Get Enough of You baby” in a more…special way.

Also, for those who like the info, I’m using my Blonde Shabat Guitar (My model) that has some David Allen Pickups in it,
I gotta admit, I don’t remember which, Dave probably knows better than me haha.
You can see my awesome Red, 3D printed UE-RM In Ears in my ears. They are crystal clear and I have a few sets of them,
just in case 😉

The sound is a little harsh because of the #GoPro mic and the fact that it’s pointed at the amps 😛
Other than that, if ya have any more questions, feel free to ask me!

Enjoy
